Wendenkreuzzug

Der Wendenkreuzzug von 1147 bezeichnet den Kreuzzug sächsischer, dänischer und polnischer Fürsten gegen die Elbslawen (Wenden) im Gebiet zwischen Elbe, Trave und Oder, hauptsächlich im heutigen Mecklenburg-Vorpommern und benachbarten Gebieten. Es handelt sich um ein Teilunternehmen des Zweiten Kreuzzuges. Die Motive der Kreuzfahrer waren vielfältig. Neben den ideellen und religiösen Gründen waren vor allem die weltlichen Motive der Fürsten, Herrschaftsansprüche in der Grenzregion, kolonisatorische Bestrebungen in Richtung Germania Slavica und innenpolitische Machtverhältnisse im Reich von entscheidender Bedeutung.
