Charge of the Goddess

“And for those who seek for me,
know that seeking
and yearning shall avail you not
unless you know the mystery;
that if that which you seek
you find not within,
you will never find it without.
For behold,
I have been with you from the beginning;
and I am that which is attained
at the end of desire.”

― Doreen Valiente, Charge of the Goddess

Doreen Valiente, described here as 'the mother of modern witchcraft', was an acclaimed author in her own right. This collection of her poems, along with John Hooper's photographs of her magical artefacts, has been published as she requested on her deathbed in September 1999. The book includes fond memories of Doreen from her many friends in the world of witchcraft.
